Marti and its consortium partners broke through on the tunnel late last year after 388 days of excavation by NATM.

The tunnel, which is located near Vysoké Mýto in the Pardubice region, comprises two tubes with a combined length of more than 1.09km. It is part of a new motorway section aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion across the area.

The geological and hydrogeological conditions were particularly challenging with quaternary soils, sandy marlstones, and an unpredictable, ever-present groundwater inflow that required continuous pumping throughout the excavation process.

During construction, 90,000 tonnes of material were extracted; 14.35km of micropiles were installed; 10,000m³ of shotcrete were applied; 4,000 rock anchors installed and 13 tonnes of explosives were used.
