Another construction milestone has been achieved on Delhi Metro’s Phase IV Golden Line with a breakthrough at the Vasant Kuni Station site.
The completion of tunnelling between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj Station on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor follows the breakthrough at Ignou[https://www.tunnelsandtunnelling.com/news/dmrc-completes-tunnel-on-tughlakabad-aerocity-corridor/] Station in February.
In the latest achievement, the 91m-long TBM broke through at Vasant Kunj Station after boring a 1,550m tunnel. Two parallel tunnels for up and down movement are being constructed on this stretch as part of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor. The breakthrough on the parallel tunnel is planned to be achieved in June.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation says the new tunnel has been constructed at an average depth of approximately 23m, with a minimum depth of 15.7m and maximum of 30.2m. About 1,107 rings have been installed, with an internal diameter of 5.8m.
The TBM was launched on October 30, 2023 and faced challenges of a steep gradient and mixed geology comprising mica and hard rock.
As part of the Phase 4 work approved so far, 40.1km of underground rail lines are being constructed. The Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor has 19.3km of underground sections.
In December last year, Afcons Infrastructure completed the longest[https://www.tunnelsandtunnelling.com/news/longest-drive-on-delhi-metro-phase-iv-completed/] drive for Delhi Metro Phase IV. The between the Tughlakabad Airforce launch shaft and Maa Anandmayee Marg Station is 2.65km long.
