The company says the tunnel in hard granite, to be built using its tunnel boring robot (TBR), will mark “the beginning of a new era for underground infrastructure”. It will be on the same site where EarthGrid’s Plasma Excavation System (PES) broke ground last summer in Sierra granite.
Founder and CEO Troy Helming said the test tunnel was the moment he had been waiting for since founding EarthGrid nine years ago.
“I’m deeply grateful for our investors’ confidence, their unwavering support, and their patience as we’ve worked toward making this vision real. The 10m test isn’t just a milestone – it’s proof that our plasma boring technology is ready to change the world,” he said.
