The New South Wales (NSW) Government has selected Gamuda Engineering as principal contractor for the Sydney Metro Stations Package West, a key element of the Sydney Metro West project.

The package covers the design and construction of five new underground stations on the Sydney Metro West alignment at Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays.

The stations form part of the 24km line linking Greater Parramatta with Sydney’s central business district.

Under the package, Gamuda will be responsible for building station boxes, entrances and access points, completing station fit-out works and integrating the new stations with surrounding precincts.

This award is Gamuda’s second significant contract on the Sydney Metro West project, following its 2022 appointment to deliver the Western Tunnelling Package.

“Each of these stations will be gateways to modern, world-class metro services but also unique in character and designed to create vibrant places reflecting the local context and future aspirations of each area,” Sydney Metro said in a statement.

In a LinkedIn post, Gamuda CEO Ewan Yee said: “We are very pleased to once again partner with the NSW Government to deliver another vital package of Australia’s largest transport project. Being entrusted to deliver the Stations Package West is a testament to the exceptional work our teams continue to deliver.”

The company described the deal as a “major milestone” and said it “reinforces our growing role in shaping Sydney’s next-generation transport network”.

Laing O’Rourke and DT Infrastructure will participate in the delivery as partners within the project team, which has been named MetroVista.

Work on the Sydney Metro Stations Package West began on 5 January.
