Port Polska has started competitive dialogue with the four consortia shortlisted for the design and construction of the tunnel and underground railway station beneath Poland’s new national airport.

The contract includes a 6km-long tunnel, varying in width from 50-160m, and the 16 million m3 station hall that will house six platforms.

The railway station beneath the airport will connect with the high-speed rail network and regional and long-distance rail services. It will enable rail services to operate east-west and, following completion of the CMK North line, north-south.

The main section of the station will connect directly to the multimodal interchange hub, forming the principal passenger route to the airport terminal.

Dr Filip Czernicki, Port Polska, CEO of Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, said the project was delivering transport infrastructure on a scale unprecedented in Poland.

“This is a major responsibility and we are committed to delivering it in a sustainable way while making intermodal transport as seamless as possible,” he said.

The four consortia that have progressed to the dialogue stage are:

  • Mirbud (lead partner), Kobylarnia, Torpol
  • Mostostal Warszawa (lead partner), NDI, NDI Sopot, Intercor
  • Porr (lead partner), Gülermak
  • Strabag (lead partner), TYM-BUD Zakład Remontowo-Budowlany Waldemar Tymoszewski

Procurement has been divided into two packages – the eastern and central section of the tunnel, including the railway station and hub; and the western section of the tunnel, including track junctions – and all four consortia have submitted applications for both lots.

The contract is expected to be awarded and signed in early 2027 and construction is scheduled to begin towards the end of 2027.
