The contract covers boring the tunnels between Fridhemsplan and Älvsjö and blasting areas for stations at Älvsjö, Östbergahöjden, Årstafältet and Årstaberg. Two TBMs will be deployed to excavate the two-track tunnels.

“The works are dependent on each other. Our assessment is that one and the same contractor has the best opportunity to plan and carry out the work as efficiently as possible,” said Johan Brantmark, manager of the subway to Älvsjö.

The TBMs are scheduled to arrive in Stockholm in autumn 2029 and will be assembled in Älvsjö.

The new Yellow Line, which will feature driverless trains, will improve public transport links between central and southern Stockholm and serve the new district planned between Årstafältet and Östbergahöjden, and Östberga.

It is expected to be completed in 2035.
