Since its founding in 1995, Swedfan (Swedish Underground Ventilation AB) has carved out a leading role in designing, manufacturing and supplying complete underground ventilation systems for tunnelling and mining worldwide. As Swedfan celebrates three decades of deep-underground expertise, the company is embarking on an expanded global outreach – particularly by bringing new agents on board to represent its high-quality ventilation and ducting solutions.

Building Ventilation Systems with focus on total costs

Swedfan offers a full suite of underground ventilation products and services: from high-pressure axial tunnelling fans (airflows from 2.5 to 200 m³/s) to flexible ventilation ducting with diameters ranging from 300 to over 3.300 mm, plus bespoke bends and accessory components. All fans are made in Sweden, with all the needed accoutrements — silencers, frequency inverters and stringent quality control in accordance with ISO 9001 plus CE marking. The ducting is produced in Sweden, Czech Republic and China (Kunshan) to meet both quality and logistical needs.

One of Swedfan’s strengths is system design: their engineers use data and measurements from hundreds of tunnelling projects ~600+ to model airflow, pressure, duct leakage, fan sizing and energy consumption. The company offers free consultation in system design to help projects optimize upfront investment and reduce long-term operating costs.

Reference Projects: Proven In the World’s Tunnels

Over its 30-year history, Swedfan has completed over 2,000 tunnelling projects worldwide. Some major highlights:

  • Förbifart Stockholm, Sweden — One of Sweden’s largest infrastructure undertakings, involving dual road tunnels, together with ramps and audits totalling some 45 km of tunnelled sections. Swedfan designed and supplied ventilation systems for two major contract lots, delivering 13 large fan stations (up to 355 kW) and about 24,000 m of ducting, with diameters up to ~2.6 m.
  • Arlanda Link Tunnels, Sweden — Swedfan was the principal supplier for the underground ventilation works connecting the commuter train to Arlanda Airport.
  • Baihetan Hydroelectric Power Project, China — A massive underground power-station tunneling project (18,000 MW capacity) for which Swedfan delivered a total of 110 fans and 150,000 m of ducting.
  • Cu Mong Pass Tunnel, Vietnam, and Dong Ah Geo / Pohang-Samchuk Railway, Korea are further examples of Swedfan systems in action globally.

These references underline Swedfan’s ability not just to design and engineer, but to deliver and support large and demanding ventilation projects, often in challenging environments.

Why choose Swedfan as a partner for a tunnelling project:

  • Proven track record and strong brand: 30 years in business, thousands of projects, and known for quality, durability and high efficiency.
  • Full product range & technical support: From fans, ducting, control systems (including remote control), to turnkey packaged design and project supervision.
  • Energy, noise, and environmental performance: Swedfan places strong emphasis on minimizing energy consumption, reducing noise and deploying manufacturing and supply practices that meet environmental standards.
  • Flexible production footprint: With manufacturing in Sweden, Czech Republic, and China (Kunshan), there is capacity to handle different scales and project geographies, reducing lead times and logistical burdens.

Celebrating 30 Years, Looking Ahead

As Swedfan enters its 30th year, the company sees both challenges and opportunities. Global infrastructure investment, especially in transport and tunnels, continues to rise. The demand for clean, safe, and energy-efficient underground workspaces grows. Swedfan believes its deep roots, combined with modern design and manufacturing, make it well-positioned to partner with any tunnelling project.
