A CREG slurry TBM has completed the 11.18km underwater section of the Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel.
TBM Linghang, which has an accessible cutterhead for high-speed rail construction, was launched from Chongming Island, Shanghai, on April 29, 2024 and completed the key section of the tunnel in Taicang, Jiangsu on March 29. The 15.4m-diameter TBM achieved 11.18km of continuous tunnelling in a single drive, which CREG says set a new world record for a 15m-class large-diameter slurry TBM.
Linghang features advanced intelligent tunnelling technologies, including adaptive chamber pressure control, predictive data-driven decision-making, automatic attitude control, and self-adjusting muck circulation, enabling a new tunnelling mode of autonomous excavation with staff on duty.
