Veidekke has won the contract to design and build the new Kongshaugen treatment plant in Norway, including shafts.
The NOK400m (€34m) project for the municipalities of Ålesund and Sula covers construction-related works pertaining to the treatment plant in the bedrock, such as major concrete works, the boring of ventilation shafts and water and frost protection. Veidekke will also construct a two-storey administration building of approximately 1,000m2, including related foundation works and landscaping.
Low carbon concrete will be used in all structures, while electric trucks will be used for the transport of most materials.
Work on the project’s caverns is well under way, while Veidekke’s construction works will begin in September and are scheduled for completion in January 2028.
The municipalities of Ålesund and Sula are working together through their project BLUE – Fjords for the Future to clean the wastewater generated by almost 50,000 residents. The plant at Kongshaugen will make fjords cleaner while also ensuring that all formal requirements relating to the treatment of wastewater in the two municipalities are met.
“We are delighted to have won the competition for this commission, and we very much appreciate the vote of confidence. We are most grateful to have been given the opportunity to work closely with these two municipalities as we build vital infrastructure that will help make the fjords cleaner,” said Stig Mork, district manager at Veidekke Bygg Møre og Romsdal.
