Mainland China’s first sub sea tunnel will open to traffic in Xiamen on 26 April.

The CNY 3.25bn (USD 475M) three-lane Xiang’an project has a total length of 8.6km, with the tunnel length amounting to 5.95km. At its deepest point, the tunnel is 70m below the eastern sea of Xiamen.

The tunnel is installed with two ventilation shafts and four uprated axial flow ventilators, providing fresh air into the tunnel.

Xiang’an is Xiamen’s third external channel after the Xiamen Bridge and Haicang Bridge.
