The extension has opened in time for the FIFA World Cup, which starts in June.

Section 1 of Los Angeles Metro’s D Line extension is now operational.

Skanska Traylor Shea JV started work on the project in 2014 and completed twin bored tunnels, each approximately 6.5km long. The alignment passed through difficult geological conditions including tar sand, high levels of methane gas and a delicate paleo zone.

The project also included new underground stations situated at the intersections of Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega. These stations serve Koreatown, Miracle Mile, Hancock Park, Carthay Circle, the Fairfax District and the gateway to Beverly Hills.

Section 1 of the D line extension extends the existing D Line subway west from Wilshire/Western to Wilshire/La Cienega.

Construction works are under way on Section 2, which continues west through Beverly Hills and Century City, and Section 3, which extends the line to Westwood, improving access to UCLA, major medical facilities, and the Westside.
