Terratec, which has supplied its T83B open TBM for the project, says production rates rose firmly in early 2025, culminating in July with 752m excavated in a single month. The achievement was acknowledged publicly by the project leadership and has been celebrated as a national record for a water tunnel drive using a single rail track and two mining locomotives.

Terratec says the strong performance reflects the integration between its machine design and the contractor’s tunnelling methodology. The T83B has proven well suited to the geological conditions of the alignment, with its cutterhead configuration, ground support systems, and operational flexibility contributing to reliable advance rates throughout the drive.

Terratec says the project team has further enhanced productivity through disciplined logistical planning and effective co-ordination across shifts, supported at all stages by Terratec’s field service engineers.
