Riyadh Metro Transit Consultants (RMTC), a Parsons Corporation, Systra and Egis joint venture, has been selected to provide project and construction management services for the Riyadh Metro Red Line Extension.
The contract was awarded in March this year but has only recently been by RMTC.
The joint venture will deliver the management and supervision services covering the design, implementation, commissioning and start of operations of the 8.4km extension on behalf of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.
The driverless Red Line Extension will connect the current King Saud University terminus and Diriyah South and 7.1km will run underground. It includes five stations – two elevated and three underground.
The RMTC began working on the Riyadh Metro in 2013, managing three of the six metro lines – Blue, Red and Orange – which represented more than 65% of the overall metro programme.
“We are honoured to continue working on the Riyadh Metro, a transformative project that is redefining urban mobility in the Kingdom’s capital and enhancing quality of life,” said Pierre Santoni, president, infrastructure EMEA at Parsons.
“As a proud long-term partner of the RCRC, and the lead consultant for the delivery of this world-class system, we look forward to supporting the city of Riyadh and the Kingdom in successfully completing this extension and future phases of the metro, leveraging our global expertise and deep local knowledge to drive excellence at every stage of delivery.”
In January this year, Riyadh City awarded the Red Line extension design and build contract to a Webuild-led consortium including Larsen & Toubro, Nesma and Alstom.
