The search and rescue operation launched following the explosion in the under-construction tunnel at the Teesta Stage VI Hydroelectric Power Project has concluded after 25 bodies were recovered from the site.
The 25 workers were in the head race tunnel on the project in Sikkim when the blast occurred on July 20. Preliminary findings suggest the explosion may have been caused by a combustible gas, although the exact cause will be confirmed following a detailed investigation.
The search and rescue operation, led by the National Disaster Response Force, continued around the clock for four days.
The Sikkim government says official records indicate that 19 of the victims were from Patel Engineering Ltd and six were from PRW Manpower.
